About the ‘Spiritual Minded’ blog

‘Spiritual Minded’ has existed in one form or another for over ten years. Originally situated on ‘Blogger’, after about five years I moved its home to put it here on WordPress. Throughout all those years the ‘Spiritual Minded’ blog has reflected my own interests in religion and spirituality and its focus has moved and changed accordingly. In the last four or five years, much of the material originally included on this blog has been adapted and integrated into some of my books that you will see listed elsewhere on this site and as such those blog entries are no longer here.

The original focus of this ‘Spiritual Minded’ blog was on what most people would call ‘Inner Spirituality’, but my roots lie firmly in Christianity and whilst there is indeed an ‘inner dimension’ in Christianity, I consider that the Christian orientation is firmly based in the objective, historical narrative of God’s people and of course Jesus in particular. Despite my broad sweep of exploration when it came to ‘Inner Spirituality’, for the most part I remained ‘anchored’ to my Christian roots. In the last couple of years, I have returned ‘home’ to focus more particularly on these Christian roots, because quite simply, Christianity is the spiritual orientation that makes the most comprehensive and satisfying sense to me.

So this blog reflects my Christian perspective. I became a Christian over forty-five years ago and like anyone I have had my ups and downs and varied life experiences. I do not claim to be anyone special – I am not an Elder, Overseer, Deacon or Teacher in any local church. I am an ordinary Christian who is often disappointed and even ashamed at the poverty of his service to God. But it comes down to this: ‘If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Because it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved’ (Romans 10 v 8 – 10; Mark 16 v 16). This is the teaching that I received and I seek to follow this injunction: ‘So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on tight to the teachings we Apostles passed on to you. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; keep hold of it, and repent’ (II Thessalonians 2 v 15; Revelation 3 v 3).So, even despite my weaknesses and failures ‘What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up’ (I Corinthians 14 v 26). It is in this attitude that I present and write this blog – as an ordinary Christian sharing his insights, learning and experience.

This blog is intended as a resource and point of interest to Christians

It is NOT the concern of this blog:

To merely publicize my books. As the administrator of this blog, my books, the background to them and related articles will certainly be mentioned, but this is not merely a publicity blog for my books.

To evangelize or ‘reach out’ to those who are not Christians.

To criticize other religious/spiritual orientations.

To engage in debates about defending Christianity in the face of non-religious or non-spiritual groups or opinions

If you agree with, are sympathetic to, or beginning to inquire about the orientation outlined here, then you are very welcome and I hope that this blog will be of interest to you and I hope, profitable to you.
